Privacy notice

Fahamu Tutor is run by FAHAMU (Pty) Ltd (Reg. 2026/786240/07), South Africa. This notice explains, in plain language, what we keep and why, as required by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we keep

Your WhatsApp number and name, and the messages, voice notes, photos and documents you send.
Your learning progress: grade, subjects, upcoming tests, what you've mastered and the mistakes you make, so the tutor can teach you better.

Why

Only to tutor you: to understand your questions, remember where you are, and plan your learning. We don't sell your information and we don't use it for advertising.

Learners under 18

Fahamu Tutor keeps learning progress for every learner so it can teach them better. A parent or guardian can ask what we hold about their child, or ask us to delete it, at any time.

Who helps us run it

Messages travel through WhatsApp (Meta) and Twilio. To understand and answer them we use AI services from OpenAI, Google and Runway (and Fireworks, only when OpenAI is unavailable), set so they don't keep copies to train their models where they offer that choice. Information may be processed outside South Africa by these providers, with safeguards.

Your rights

You (or your parent or guardian) can ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it: send "delete my data" to Fahamu Tutor or contact hello@joinfahamu.com. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
